as i was catching up on my news reading and other internet-powered activities i was amazed by WSJ article that described Moscow, Russia as most expensive city to live in for second straight year.
It’s always amazing to me how countries with highest poverty levels end up on these kind of lists. Moscow, St Petersburg and Kiev are no exception. With two-bedroom apartments in the city costing upwards of $4000 a month and most of country making less than $100 a month it only seems logical for president Putin to be worried about things like USA deploying anti-missile defense systems in Europe and nonsense like that…

woho! i am the proud owner of ‘07 jetta…

i should mention that my old car got messed up on Friday when some lady ran into me while i was just minding my own business… she ran into side of my car and caused quite a bit of damage… so long story short i got a new car and the old one will be either sold or totaled by the insurance company… no verdict on that yet..

So yay for me!

Even though there is irrefutable evidence pointing towards the killer, russian government refuses to extradite, because apparently there is a law that prohibits extradition of citizenry, well what happens to other laws that get neglected over there? why is it that law is only taken in consideration when it’s convenient for the government? Why is it that the government of russia is stomping all over the human rights and civil liberties of the people with no remorse or consequences. Isn’t this why the UN and other world-wide governmental enteties were formed?

It seems to me that although there is much attention drawn to the obvious issues, in africa and elsewhere, there is very little attention on countries like russia where the civil liberties and human rights are just as neglected as they are in other conflict regions.
Further, it seems to me that some of those conflict regions do not really want the help anyway, they are still killing each other (even though they are the same nationality and race) and still believe that sleeping with virgins is going to cure their aids.

So wouldn’t it be more productive to turn the efforts and help the democracy really shine in the areas where bulk of the population does have some rationale and actually wants help? Where most of the issues can most likely be resolved through diplomacy …

Maybe Oprah should go to russia and spread her goodness there? Oh wait, that wouldn’t be right, maybe Martha Stewart better do that…

anyways, that’s my thoughts for the day…

now i will probably have to go into hiding, since i mentioned kremlin officials (and Oprah) in a negative light… and apparently that’s not allowed…

For those of you following the AutoAdmit message board scandal, this just in:
The Law Blog has learned that law firm Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge rescinded its job offer to Anthony Ciolli, the 3L at Penn Law who resigned as “Chief Education Director” of AutoAdmit last month. His resigned in the wake of a WaPo exposé on how the site in part served as a platform for attacks and defamatory remarks about female law students, among others (see our earlier post here).
Charles DeWitt, a managing partner at Edwards Angell’s Boston office, where Ciolli was slated to be a litigation associate, told the Law Blog: “He worked for us last summer. He’s not going to work for us in the fall.”
